Grayce Nguyen, a first-generation graduate with a BFA in Fashion Design from the University of North Texas, brings a unique blend of creativity and determination to the industry. In April 2024, her senior collection was recognized by the Fashion Group International (FGI) of Dallas, winning first place in its category.
Her experience covers the entire product lifecycle. On the design and sourcing side, she handles trend research, develops digital concepts using Adobe Creative Suites and CLO3D, and partners closely with vendors and sourcing managers to source quality fabrications. In her technical, patternmaking, and project management capacities, she develops detailed tech packs with precise flat sketches and call-outs, tracks samples, and coordinates directly with vendors to keep production timelines on schedule. She is highly hands-on during fittings, evaluating prints, fabric qualities, and garment construction to ensure design integrity from initial sample to production.

In my current role at Sharon Young, I support the development of womenswear apparel through creative design and technical execution. I conduct comprehensive trend and market research to inform seasonal directions, while utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create CADs, prints, and design presentations. On the technical side, I use Adobe Illustrator to draw detailed flat sketches and call-outs for technical packages. I also participate in fittings to review prints, fabric qualities, and garment construction, communicating precise corrections directly to vendors. Throughout each season, I collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to maintain line sheets, track samples, and ensure every piece aligns perfectly with the brand's aesthetic.

During my time at Elizabeth Leese, I assisted during fittings by taking notes on initial muslin samples, alterations, and final garments. I also drafted and modified patterns for construction while working with delicate fabrics like silk and lace. Alongside, I hand-tacked embellishments like lace and embroidered appliques to final gowns. Additionally, I observed Elizabeth's garment construction process to learn from her expertise.

I stayed on top of social media trends, keeping my supervisor informed of important changes. I created and posted engaging content weekly, interacted with followers and partners, and completed various tasks assigned to me, such as revising and organizing content.

During this internship, I gained hands-on experience in both the fashion and business aspects of the company. I researched trends and presented findings and design ideas to the creative director through moodboards. I also assisted in CAD and linesheet development. On the business side, I prepared garments and accessories for photoshoots, managed inventories and wholesale websites, and organized collections using microsoft excel, Shopify, and oversaw shipments.
